This coffee comes from the Shantawene Kebena community, nestled between the villages of Bombe and the majestic Bombe mountain in Ethiopia. The locals, who speak Sidaamu and Amharic, are mostly smallholder farmers who grow coffee in the gardens around their homes. It's a natural fit—coffee trees grow wild here, a true nod to Ethiopia's coffee heritage.

Shantawene experiences two rainy seasons: Belg, from late February to May, and Kiremt, from June to September. With up to 78 inches of rain a year, the lush landscape and rich soil create perfect conditions for coffee farming.

In Bensa, farmers hand-pick ripe cherries, which then undergo careful processing at the washing station. This includes washing, density sorting, hand-sorting on drying tables, and sun-drying to the perfect moisture level before being hulled, bagged, and shipped off to Addis Ababa for export. A true labor of love!
